In January 2015 the gas drainage and methane utilisation unit of OJSC SUEK-Kuzbass commissioned a new VLD-1000 directional drilling rig at a cost of over $3m.
A similar drill rig has been operating at Kirova Mine since 2011 in underground drilling section No. 3. This machine has drilled over 85,000 metres of boreholes and has set two world records in daily drilling rate in adverse mining and geological conditions and excessive methane emissions. The new drill rig features an improved spatial orientation system.
In December 2014 the surface drilling section No. 2 received a new Sandvik DE-880 drill rig, the third to be introduced at the mine. During 2014, surface drill rigs drilled over 36,900 metres of boreholes, including over 35,400 metres with two Sandvik DE-880 machines.
