SUEK publishes operating results for January-September 2020

30 October 2020
In January-September 2020, Siberian Coal Energy Company (JSC SUEK) produced 75.4 million tonnes of coal. Compared to Q1-Q3 2019, production growth totalled 1%.

Sales of coal and other energy products in January-September 2020 amounted to 81.2 million tonnes. International sales for the nine months increased by 2% to 41.5 million tonnes, including SUEK's own products exports rise by 19% to 33.4 million tonnes. The main international consumers were Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Israel, Netherlands, Morocco, Germany and Poland.

Coal sales to the Russian market decreased by 6% to 39.7 million tonnes, of which 24.3 million tonnes were intragroup shipments to the power plants of Siberian Generating Company (SGC). Lower sales volumes are explained by a drop in demand from power generation companies due to a high water level and an abnormally warm winter.

In January-September 2020, coal transshipment reached 17.6 million tonnes at the Vanino Bulk Terminal, 9.5 million tonnes in the Murmansk Commercial Seaport and 2.5 million tonnes in the Maly Port. In total for the first nine months of 2020, transshipment in SUEK's own ports amounted to 33.3 million tonnes, including 3.7 million tonnes of non-coal products.

As of the end of September, the railcar fleet operated by SUEK totalled 51,688 cars, of which more than 65% are high-capacity ones.

In Q1-Q3 2020, SGC's generating assets produced 44.8 billion KWh of electricity and 25.9 million GCal of heat. Electricity generation rose by 37% year-on-year after purchasing the Reftinskaya GRES and Krasnoyarskaya GRES-2, while heat generation decreased by 7% because of the higher average ambient temperature in 2020 compared to January-September 2019.
